On December 6, James Galbraith hosted and gave a keynote address to a symposium entitled "Macroeconomic Policy in the Shadow of the Great Financial Crisis" which was held at the LBJ Washington Center and co-hosted by the Political Economy Research Institute of U-Mass Amherst. The symposium celebrated four books, most notably "Keynes Against Capitalism" by James Crotty; the others were "All Fall Down" by Jane D'Arista, "When Things Don't Fall Apart" by Ilene Grabel and "The Political Economy of Central Banking" by Gerald Epstein. Hyunsub Kum has been promoted to tenure at Seoul National University. While at the LBJ School from 1998 to 2004, Hyun was a mainstay of the University of Texas Inequality Project, and co-author of our key paper on estimating gross household income inequality from measures of inequality in industrial pay. He joined the Graduate School of Public Administration at SNU in 2006 and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2011.

The speech was held up for an hour or so by a procedural wrangle, happily resolved. But part of it involved a 2-1 vote against allowing the speaker to speak, until the issue was dealt with. -- plus two keynote addresses, from Damon Silvers of the Congressional Oversight Panel
and Phil Angelides of the Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission.
